However, when it comes to learning digital marketing, it’s important not to rely solely on books.
Why?
Because digital marketing is a dynamic, ever-evolving field. What works today might not work tomorrow.
Books are great for learning timeless principles—like marketing fundamentals, copywriting techniques, or general writing skills.
These concepts don’t change, and books are perfect for deepening your understanding in these areas. But when it comes to something as fast-paced as digital marketing, solely relying on books might not be the best strategy.
If you’re a complete beginner, books are fantastic for building a strong foundation, but to really grow, you need to supplement your reading with practical experience—through courses, videos, and real-world application.
Ultimately, it’s hands-on experience where the real learning happens. Books and YouTube videos can teach you the theory, but unless you practice, you’re not going to truly understand or master the skill.
So, if you’re an aspiring digital marketer, my advice is simple: whatever you learn, start implementing it right away.
Test what you’ve learned, see what works, and refine your approach.
That’s the key to mastering any skill in digital marketing.
What’s Digital Marketing?
Digital marketing is a vast field—it’s like a big umbrella with many different branches beneath it.
For example, email marketing, WhatsApp marketing, Facebook marketing, and Google Ads are all subsets of digital marketing.
Ultimately, you’re marketing through a digital medium, but each subtopic is incredibly broad in itself.
While it’s great to have a general understanding of all the areas, you should aim to build expertise in one or two specific subjects.
Let’s say you enjoy Facebook marketing or content marketing—focus on mastering that subset.
No one can become an expert in all aspects of digital marketing. You can, however, become an expert in Facebook Ads, Google Ads, content marketing, or email marketing.
That should be your goal.
At the same time, it’s important to have a solid grasp of the basics across the board.
Why?
Because everything in digital marketing is interconnected.
If you don’t understand the fundamentals of content marketing or email marketing, for instance, you’ll struggle to create and execute a comprehensive strategy for a brand.
You won’t have the full picture of how all the pieces fit together, making it harder to make any one tactic work effectively.
Speaking from my 6+ years of experience in Digital Marketing
I want to emphasize this: digital marketing is a field where you must be committed to continuous learning. When I started learning digital marketing six years ago, I had no idea how much I’d still be learning today.
But that’s what makes it exciting—there’s always a new concept, strategy, or tactic to try out.
I love testing new things, running A/B tests, and seeing what works and what doesn’t.
If you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy learning or adapting to change, digital marketing might not be the best career path for you because it’s always evolving.

They don’t stick with it because they’re not excited about trying new tactics or implementing fresh ideas.
It’s okay to explore and decide if it’s for you, but you need to have the drive and a learning mindset to succeed.

In any field, including digital marketing, success requires persistence and passion. That’s how you’ll get ahead.

The goal here is not to dive deep into each book but to get a basic idea of what each one covers. You’re aiming to finish all of them quickly—get an overview of the concepts.
For example, after skimming through all the books, you might realize that you’re more interested in topics like content marketing or copywriting.
Step 2: Pick Your Favorite and Focus
Once you’ve skimmed the books, decide which topics or areas interest you the most.
Maybe you found content marketing fascinating, or maybe copywriting really grabbed your attention.
At this point, pick one or two books that focus on these topics and start reading them carefully.
These are the books you’ll want to spend more time with to gain a deeper understanding.

Reading alone won’t make you an expert.

I’ve been in the same position—constantly learning but not taking action, and it held me back.
You can spend 20% of your time learning, but 80% should be spent on implementation.
This is where the real learning happens, and where growth comes from.

If you already know a few topics—like social media marketing or WhatsApp marketing—feel free to skip those while reading.
Focus on areas where you lack knowledge. Explore something new, and if you find it interesting, dive deeper.
If not, you can always return to topics you’re more familiar with.
This will help you make practical decisions about where to focus your energy and develop expertise.
Final Thoughts
I want to end this guide by sharing a simple truth: “The difference between winners and losers is that winners try just one more time.”
They push through, while losers quit—and that’s the key difference.
Every year, thousands of people search for digital marketing, maybe even start learning a thing or two.
But I’d say 95% of them give up too soon. They lose motivation or don’t keep learning, implementing, and progressing.
They quit after facing one or two setbacks. But that’s not how things work.
Think about it this way: when you were in high school, if you failed one or two subjects, did you quit? No. You kept studying until you passed, then moved on to the next class.
If we can persist in formal education, even when we’re not getting immediate rewards, why quit when it comes to something like digital marketing or learning essential skills that can truly change your life?
Set a goal for yourself—something concrete, like “I’ll get to 1,000 subscribers” or “I’ll land my first client.” And make a commitment that you won’t quit until you achieve it.
We’ve all been through boring or difficult parts of formal education, but we pushed through.
So why do we give up so quickly when it comes to the real-world skills that can completely transform our lives?
Is it a lack of perspective?
Do we underestimate ourselves and think, “This isn’t for me”? Or maybe we don’t feel hungry enough for success.
Hunger is key. The more driven you are, the more effort you’ll put in to find solutions, learn, and improve. Some people just want a job, maybe earn a little money, and if they face a few failures, they give up.
I think that’s why many people don’t succeed.
Life will test you, throw questions at you that aren’t in the syllabus, and you’ve got to be ready for that.
Always ask yourself, “If this doesn’t work, what’s next?” Or, “If it works, how can I make it even better?”
That’s another critical point: many times, when something works, we get complacent. We don’t double down on what’s already successful, and instead, we chase after new things, which can delay your success.
